West Jordan Plein Air Entry

The colors of a Carnival. I started this in plein air for the West Jordan Fourth of July celebration. It's now going to be judged to see it has won a prize. I am keeping my fingers crossed. You never know with competitions what will win-if it's the subject matter or the quality of the work. With this piece I really enjoyed painting the colors, which were mostly right out of the tube. The lettering was tricky, trying to keep a steady hand.

Redo! My Dad's Face

I painted this piece early and was quite happy with it, but then I gave it a few months and found I wasn't that happy with it. So, I wanted to try it again. Now, I am much happier with the results. Each painting I feel more confident in my technical abilities. Learning more about soft and hard edges.....thicker paint and thicker paint. I have another landscape to post soon. Waiting for it to dry.

Contemporary Portrait

Rather than paint a stuffy portrait, I wanted to paint someone that has a different sense of style and isn't afraid to be different. It was a challenge to paint the graffiti in the background, because it was painted brick with paint on top of that. So if I painted all the colors of the graffiti, it was too distracting from the figure.
